Option B: Workforce Pathways Diploma
- Four credits in English and social studies
- Two credits in math: Algebra I and Geometry (typically taken in 9th and 10th grade)
- Two credits in science: Biology and a physical science
- Plus three credits in a career technical education (CTE) sequence that qualifies the student as a “completer” in a chosen field.
- Alabama's Option B diploma, also known as the Workforce Pathway, allows students to fulfill diploma requirements with fewer math and science courses and increased elective credits, with a focus on career and technical education (CTE). This pathway provides students an opportunity to prepare for direct entry into the workforce after high school.
Key Features of Option B:
- Reduced Math and Science Requirements:
Students need to take two math credits (instead of four) and two science credits (instead of four).
- Increased Electives:
The reduction in required math and science credits allows for more elective credits, enabling students to focus on areas of interest.
- Required CTE Sequence:
Students must complete a sequence of three CTE courses within the same career cluster.
- Workforce Readiness:
The Option B pathway is designed to help students gain the knowledge and skills needed for direct entry into the workforce.
Eligibility and Athletic Participation:
- Students choosing Option B are eligible for high school athletics.
Stipulations at Talladega High School if Option B is selected:
- Students choosing Options B cannot participate virtually.
- Students choosing Option B are not eligible for Top Ten.
- Students choosing Option B are not eligible to be an honors graduate.
